Most chickpeas are imported from Australia. Myanmar’s chickpeas were in short supply but were sold at relatively high prices.
However, although the chickpea market was upward in the beginning, now India’s chickpeas have taken the reins.
On Tuesday Khatunganj, the country’s largest consumer goods market, was visited on the ground – the supply of chickpeas from Australia, India, and Myanmar is good.
Although the price varies by size and quality, the market is bearish.
202 Khatunganj’s M/s MI Trading’s Arif Mohammad Forkan told the media that this is the first time India’s supply of chickpeas has been seen to be high.
We are selling Indian chickpeas from Tk 76 to Tk 82 per kg in customized wholesale. Australian chickpeas from 76 taka to 80 taka. We have some of the best quality chickpeas in Australia at tk.86 per kg.
Milan Sen of Ma-Mani Traders said, it is very likely that the traders of India import chickpeas from some countries including Tanzania and export them to Bangladesh in different categories after selection. We are selling chickpea wholesale in India at Rs 78 to 82 per kg. Australian chickpeas are 77 taka.
