PV Online Report : The construction of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel is nearing completion. The progress of construction work has reached 96.5 percent. Project Director (PD) Md. Rashid Chowdhury of Harunur said the tunnel will become a city of two cities and the under-construction passageway under the Karnaphuli river is expected to be opened for traffic very soon.

Harunur Rashid said that more than 96.5 percent of the tunnel construction work has been completed and the mechanical commissioning work is progressing at a fast pace, adding that the approach road construction work has already been completed. According to project sources, earlier the civil work of the first tube was completed on November 26, 2022 and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the completion ceremony of the first tube of the two-tube tunnel on the same day. Harun said that the construction of the cross passage and tunnel related to the toll plaza is almost at the final stage.

Apart from the completion of four lanes of the two tubes, other ancillary works are also in the final stages and the PD expressed optimism that the construction of the tunnel will be completed within the stipulated time.
