PV Online Report : Chittagong City Corporation ( CCC) is undertaking a project with the support of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank ( AIIB ) of China to modernize the city’s waste management .
Two plants will be set up in the city under the project. The collected waste will be processed to produce bio-fertilizer and diesel. As a result of this process, the city dwellers will get rid of the harmful gas , dirty water and bad smell emitted from the waste. Under the project, modern solar powered vehicles will be used to transport waste.
According to CCC sources , a delegation from the local government department on solid waste management met with City Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury on Tuesday and discussed the project in detail. At that time, the delegation proposed to divide the city into two parts, north and south, with 5 acres and 10 acres of land. Then the mayor assured to take quick action. The delegation later visited the Halisahar garbage dump in CCC and the site earmarked for the proposed landfill in Dakshin Pahartali ward.
City Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said , since assuming responsibility, he has brought the city’s waste management in order. However, by gaining experience about the waste management of different modern countries, I am realizing that , through the use of technology, we will be able to transform the huge amount of waste that is produced in Chittagong into resources as well as build a better environment.
