Vyacheslav Volodin, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said Western-supplied offensive weapons in Kiev, which threaten Russian territory, would spell disaster for the world and arguments against the use of weapons of mass destruction would no longer hold.
Volodin, the speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament, warned that US and NATO support for Ukraine was pushing the world towards a ‘terrible war’.
“Supplying offensive weapons to the Kiev regime would wreak havoc on the world,” he said.
“If Washington and NATO countries continue to supply weapons, they will be used to hit civilian-inhabited cities in an attempt to seize our territory, as they have threatened,” Volodin added in the telegram. And in response, the pot will be ready to use more powerful weapons.”
