PV Online Report : Three intersections (roundabouts) are being constructed to smooth traffic on the Bangabandhu Tunnel Link Road. Those concerned believe that it will be possible to control the traffic congestion through these three roundabouts at the meeting point of the main road and connecting road of the tunnel near Chatri Chaumuhani, Dighi Mor and Shikalbaha Y Junction at Kala Bibi.
Roads and Public Ways Department (R&H) sources said that the four lanes of the 6-lane tunnel connection road at a cost of about Tk 400 crore are fully ready for traffic. The completion of the two culverts by February will make the four lanes 100 percent complete. It may take time till December this year to complete the remaining two lanes. Meanwhile, apart from completing the road work, we also have to think about proper management of traffic.
The utility of a wide 6-lane road was raised due to lack of U-loops on the PAB road at the Anwara end, which is connected to the tunnel, and the narrowness of the road from Marine Academy to CUFL. Moreover, the experts also opined that it will be difficult for vehicles coming from the tunnel to turn right at the junction of the tunnel’s connecting road and the six-lane road under construction by the Roads and Highways Department.
