Peacekeepers have recovered the bodies of 49 people, including children, from a mass grave in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in Central Africa. The dead are believed to be victims of a massive clash between extremist groups and militias.

The bodies were found in mass graves in two villages in northeastern Ituri province, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) east of the Congolese town of Bunia, Farhan Haq, deputy UN spokesman, told a news conference in New York.
