PV Desk : Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq handed over the latest edition of Bangladesh Code to Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossian.
The latest edition was published in 42 volumes with all the resolutions,
president orders, law and ordinances totaling to 1,085 formulated since 1799 to June 2014.
As par Article-6 of Bangladesh Laws (Revision and Declaration) Act, 1973, there is an obligation to update all the laws chronologically and publish that as “Bangladesh Code”.
The first Bangladesh Code was published in 1980 in 11 volumes updating all the laws formulated since 1799 to 1937.
With the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the making of Bangladesh Code started in 2000 under legal reform project funded by Canadian International Development Agency. In 2007, the first edition of Bangladesh Code published in 38 volumes after updating all the laws.
