PV Desk : Police in different drives arrested 15 members, including regional chief, of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from different areas of the city.

The arrestees are Hizb ut-Tahrir Chattogram regional chief Abul Mohammad Ershadul Alam, 36, and its members Afzal Hossain Atiq, 35, Azimuddin, 31, Abdullah Al Mahfuz, 30, Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, 29, Lokman Gani, 29, Nazmul Huda, 27, Mohammad Karim, 27, Imtiaz Ismail, 25, Md Azimul Huda, 24, Abdullah Al Munim, 22, Kamrul Hasan Rana, 20, Ariful Islam, 20, Md Samrat, 22, and Walid Ibn Nazim, 18.

The drives were conducted between Friday evening and early Saturday, Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Shah Md Abdur Rauf said.

Police arrested 13 Hizb ut-Tahrir men from the residential area at Chandgaon when they were holding a meeting. Two others were arrested from Bayezid police station area, he added.

Police seized laptop, mobile phones, jihadi books and leaflets from their possession, the ADC added.

Rauf said that regional chief of the banned militant outfit Ershadul was a teacher at a private English medium school.
