PV Desk : Former mayor of undivided Dhaka City Corporation and BNP vice chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka has passed away in New York.
He breathed his last at 1 pm (Bangladesh time) on Monday (November 4).
Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP chairperson’s press wing, confirmed the matter to the media.
Earlier on November 3, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam MP posted a status on his Facebook account: “If family of former mayor of undivided Dhaka City Corporation Sadeque Hossain Khoka applies for a ‘travel permit’, to return home, Bangladesh consulate in New York will take necessary steps.”
“As he and his wife do not have passports, therefore, this is the only way for them to return home through international ways. I made this decision known to consulate in New York,” he also said.
“There are cases against him and his wife. There could also have arrest warrants against them, which I am not sure about. However, after talking to the home minister I learnt that the issue will be assessed on grounds of humanity,” the state minister further said.
