PV Desk : Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the damaging conditions of highways will not be a reason for traffic gridlock during the upcoming Eid-ul Azha.

He said, “Generally there are two reasons for traffic congestion on highways- vehicles without fitness and vehicles on the wrong side of the road. This time no one will be allowed to such things.”

Quader, also the ruling Awami League general secretary, made the remarks to reporters in city’s Jatrabari area on Friday (June 1).

Earlier he took part in a raid at a factory that produces vehicles without fitness in city’s Matuail area on Friday morning (June 1).

Quader said these fitness-less vehicles must be shut down at the source. Any illegal workshops beside highways will be closed and sealed.

“We will do our best efforts to keep the traffic movements normal on highways”, said Quader.
He also asked all government agencies including WASA and DESA to pause their developmental works related to digging up roads in Dhaka during Eid season.
