PV Desk : Bangladesh railway has signed a deal for feasibility survey and design of a high speed rail line between Dhaka and Chittagong.

Bangladesh railway inked the deal with China Railway Design Corporation and Majumder Enterprise of Bangladesh at Railway office in Dhaka on Thursday (May 31).

Director of the concerned project Md. Kamrul Ahsan on behalf of Bangladesh and International Business Department business manager Leo Uichao on behalf of the consultancy singed the deal.

Railway minister Mujibul Haque said it will take only two hours to travel from Dhaka to Chittagong if the project is implemented. It will save time and reduce sufferings of the commuters few times.

Railway Ministry secretary Md Mofazzel Hossain and Bangladesh Railway director general Md. Amzad Hossain were also present at the singing ceremony.

According to the deal, feasibility survey and design of the project must be completed within 18 months. The project is worth Tk 102,10,47,730 crore. The government will finance the consultancy service.

According to sources, the rail distance between Dhaka and Chittagong will be reduced 90 km if the high speed train is launched.
