PV Desk : One person was killed in a shootout between Awami League-backed councilor candidates and supporters of a ‘rebel’ candidate in the Chittagong City Corporation elections in the Pathantuli area under the city’s Double Mooring police station.
Police have arrested 19 people including Abdul Quader. Police sources said they were detained after conducting raids in different areas of Mogaltuli area after the clashes on Tuesday (January 12th) night.
Sources said, councilor candidate Abdul Kader and 19 others have been taken to the detective police office in Mansurabad. Apart from Abdul Quader, others arrested include Helal Uddin, Raju, Rimon and Khokon.
Awami League-backed councilor candidate Nazrul Islam Bahadur is filing a case as a plaintiff, police sources said. However, no case was registered at the police station till 1.30 pm on Wednesday (January 13). Awami League-backed councilor candidate Nazrul Islam Bahadur and ‘rebel’ candidate and newly-appointed former councilor Md. The clash took place between Abdul Quader’s supporters. When the two were shot in the hospital was taken. A man named Azgar Ali Babul (55) died.
The deceased Azgar Ali Babul is said to be a supporter of Awami League-backed councilor candidate Nazrul Islam Bahadur.
Double Mooring Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sadeep Kumar Das said additional police had been deployed in the Magpukur Par area of Pathantuli Ward No. 27 after a shootout between the two sides.Courtesy-banglanews
