PV Desk : After a long hiatus from the coronavirus epidemic, Laldighi Park in Chattogram has been renovated and reopened to the public.
City Corporation Administrator Khorshed Alam Sujan opened the park on Friday morning after renovation work.
The park will be open to the public every day from 6am to 7pm and from 3pm to 5pm.
There, the doctors and health workers of the city corporation will provide free health services including diabetic and blood pressure tests.
In 1939, Raj Kumar Ghosh of the then zamindar Nandankanan planted a garden on his land around Laldighi and Dighi. After being abandoned for many years, former Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury took ownership of Laldighi from the family of Bahadur Raj Kumar Ghosh at a symbolic price. Later a park was built around the lake.
City Corporation Administrator Sujan said the memory of the great revolutionaries of the anti-British movement around Chittagong Jail adjacent to Laldighi, the first reading of Ekushey poems at Laldighi ground, the six-point declaration of Bangabandhu, the march past of Joybangla Swechchhasebak Bahini are the birthplace of many historical events. There is a history of many heroic deeds around Laldighi.
