PV Desk : The Chattogram City Awami League has decided to plant tree saplings in all the hills of Chattogram city to prevent landslides, siltation in the monsoon season, occupation of hills and tackling climate change.
The organization is going to hold discussions with the concerned authorities of the hills and the Department of Environment to decide what to do in this regard.
Former city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, general secretary of Chattogram City Awami League, said the new program will be implemented keeping in view the planting of one crore saplings across the country announced by the government on the occasion of Mujib Year.
On Monday (September 14), tree saplings were distributed among Awami League leaders and activists in North Pathantuli Ward, West Madarbari Ward and East Madarbari Ward as part of a program to distribute tree saplings across 43 wards of the city.
The former mayor said this while addressing a discussion meeting organized on the occasion.
Former city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said 50,000 saplings would be distributed in phases in the wards under Nagar Awami League. In the first phase of the program on July 14, 200 tree saplings were distributed to each ward of the Awami League leaders. In the second phase, Nagar Awami League is distributing tree saplings in every ward. Now it has been decided to plant saplings in all the hills of the city.
Acting President of city Awami League Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury was the chief guest at the ward-based meeting held on the occasion of distribution of saplings.
