PV Online Report : CCC Mayor heroic freedom fighter Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has emphasized the urgent need for the international community to take immediate steps to ensure the repatriation of Rohingya deported from Myanmar.
During a courtesy call on US Ambassador Earl R. Miller on Wednesday (October 13th), the Mayor emphasized the need to repatriate Rohingya.
The Mayor said Bangladesh is a densely populated area. Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given shelter to Rohingyas in this country for humanitarian reasons and is spending huge amount of money for their upbringing. The Rohingya problem is extremely embarrassing for us. The only solution to this situation is to quickly repatriate them to their homeland according to the dignity and recognition they deserve.
Responding to a question from the Ambassador about the Corona situation, the Mayor said that it was possible to handle the Corona situation in the country due to the prudence and foresight of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Although corona infection is still present, its rate is declining. More than 20 per cent of the people in the country have already been vaccinated against corona and the government is hopeful that 80 per cent of the people will be vaccinated by next March. He thanked the US administration for its overall cooperation, including the provision of vaccines to prevent corona.
CCC CEO Shahidul Alam, Mayor’s Private Secretary Muhammad Abul Hashem, Chief Engineer Rafiqul Islam Manik, US Embassy Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs Scott A. Brandon, Economic and Commercial Specialist Shahinur Sikder, Acting Chief Health Officer of CCC Mohammad Ali, Additional Chief Accounting Officer Humayun Kabir Chowdhury and others were present on the occasion.
